Vacation Bible School Round-up at First Baptist

It’s Bible time in our town again. First Baptist Church, at the corner of Sebree and Idaho streets, will be teaming up with Baptist Youth Mission to bring an exciting and challenging youth program to Dillon.

The Bible School begins Monday August 3, at 9:00 a.m. for Kindergartners through 6th graders, and will continue through Friday, concluding with the Friday Night Award Program at 7:00 p.m.

Dramatized missionary stories, Bible lessons, singing, contests, games, and refreshments are a few of the exciting features.

One unique feature is the Teen Rally, which will be held in the evenings starting at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2nd through Thursday, August 6th. This year’s theme will be “Youth Alive.” Evangelist Buddy McNorton from Baptist Youth Mission will challenge the teens to live for God by bringing youth relevant messages from the Bible.

Parents are encouraged to enroll their children and teens, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself, “ . . . [allow] the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark10:14).

Parents who would like to meet Evangelist Buddy McNorton and his family are invited to attend the annual Sunday School Picnic at Barretts pavilion on Sunday, August 2nd starting at 10:30 a.m. It will be a potluck, so bring a dish and join us for a fun and challenging time as our VBS Evangelist preaches the Word of God.

Help with transportation can be arranged by calling First Baptist Church. Each participant is encouraged to bring a Bible and a friend. For further Vacation Bible School or Youth Rally information call 683-4438 or 683-4998. You can also check out their church blog at www.fbcdillonmt.wordpress.com

60th Wedding Aniversary of Lee & Betty Rampy

60th Wedding Aniversary of Lee & Betty Rampy

Lee & Betty gave praise to God for His goodness to them this past 60 years of marriage and pledged their faithfulness to each other till the Lord takes them home.  We had a blessed time of fellowship at their reception.

In the June Pastor’s Chat, we took a little detour from writing on our church theme for 2009— God is Worthy! This month we will come back to the next part of Revelation 5:12 which tells us that God is worthy of honor.

Do we honor God as we should? To answer that question we need to understand what honor is. To honor, according to Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary, is to “revere; to respect; to treat with deference and submission, and perform relative duties to.” Truly, our lives will show every day if we revere and respect God or not!

What did you do this morning that showed reverence to God? What will you do next that will show respect to God? Or since honor begins in one’s heart toward God, maybe you should ask: “Is my heart submissive to God right now?” God challenges us with this truth through His prophet Isaiah: “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men” (Isaiah 28:13). Honor certainly cannot be created by the command of anyone. It is an attitude of the heart that reveals itself in decisions concerning your money (Proverbs 3:9) and your time (Isaiah 58:13-14). How you use your money and spend your time will reveal how much you really honor God.

We have probably all watched a child (or been that child) that with an expression of arrogance mouthed off at a parent in defiance saying, “No!” Remember how ugly that looked? We must look even worse to God when in defiance we choose to do our own will instead of honoring His will.

With prayer, Mark Worden

Proverbs 3:9, “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”

Isaiah 58:13-14, “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”

Mark 7:6, “He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”

John 5:23, “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

I Timothy 1:17, “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Hebrews 2:9, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

2 Peter 1:17, “For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Revelation 7:12, “Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”

Revelation 19:1, “And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God.”

We prayed for good weather  and the Lord gave us the weather that was best for us.  It rained all night and all day.  However, our goal was to fish and fellowship.  The rain helped the fishing to be great on Reservoir Lake, and made the fellowship close as we huddled under a tarp by the fire to cook and stay warm.  4 men and 7 boys had a fine and pleasant misery and an experience we will never forget as we worshiped the Lord in the beauty of His creation.  Brother Kramer challenged us from the Word of God to be kind, thoughtful, and thankful toward the people in our families.  He exhorted us to not only say it verbally but to express it in writing by giving special letters to the loved ones in our lives.
